Gonda: Rural sanitation workers staged a protest at the Rupaidih Block headquarters in Gonda on Wednesday, demanding the registration of an FIR against a villager accused of assaulting and abusing sanitation staff during official duty.
Led by district union president Raghavendra Tiwari, the protesting employees alleged that the incident occurred two days ago in Pure Pathak Gram Panchayat while a justice panchayat roster-related sanitation drive was underway. According to the workers, a local resident, Tarkeshwar Tiwari, allegedly used abusive language against sanitation worker Dinesh Chaturvedi and other staff members before physically assaulting them.
The employees said they had submitted a complaint at the block headquarters and later informed the Kaudiya police station about the incident. However, they alleged that no FIR has been registered so far.
Following the protest, a delegation of sanitation workers met the Station House Officer of Kaudiya police station and reiterated their demand for immediate legal action. The union warned that if an FIR is not registered promptly, rural sanitation workers across the area would launch an indefinite strike, holding the Kaudiya police responsible for any disruption in sanitation services.
Among those present were district general secretary Devmani Shukla, Ittiyathok block president Loknath Shukla, district president of the women’s wing Sarita Kashyap, Rupaidih block president Lakhan Lal Paswan (Lala Paswan), general secretary Uday Raj, Ramkripal, Pankaj Shukla, Rajeev Mishra, Rajesh Gautam and hundreds of sanitation workers.
